Sadly the biggest news in the NFL yesterday was that Torry Holt
retired as a Ram. For those not in the know, Holt hasn’t played since 2009, his
retirement was merely formality. But a few moves were made, so let’s look at
what they were.
Rams re-sign QB Tom
Brandstater, sign LB Jo-Lonn Dunbar
The Rams re-signed third quarterback Tom Brandstater to an
undisclosed deal and signed linebacker Jo-Lonn Dunbar to a two-year contract
worth a maximum of $5 million dollars if he hits all of his incentives.
The Brandstater signing is sensible, though won’t make an
impact. He’s just a developmental player who will likely never see the field.
I do love the Jo-Lonn Dunbar signing though. He’s a much
better player than most have given him credit for. He should slide right into
the starting lineup on the outside and make an impact as a run stuffer.
Titans re-sign LB Tim
Shaw
The Titans re-signed linebacker Tim Shaw to a three-year
deal. The financial terms were not disclosed.
Shaw has been a special teamer and will likely continue in
that role. The Titans do need some help at linebacker but Shaw is not likely to
help a lot in the starting lineup. I like the signing even though I don’t think
he’ll be a starting linebacker.
Panthers re-sign LB
Jordan Senn
The Panthers re-signed linebacker Jordan Senn to an
undisclosed contract.
Senn has been a decent backup linebacker and solid special
teamer. He should continue in that role and be a solid option should Thomas
Davis continue to be injury prone.
Giants sign S Stevie
Brown
The Giants signed safety Stevie Brown to an undisclosed contract.
Brown is a depth player and special teamer who doesn’t add a
lot of value defensively, he’ll likely only be used in that capacity with the
Giants.
Vikings sign WR Bryan
Walters
The Vikings signed wide receiver Bryan Walters to an
undisclosed contract.
Walters can barely get on the field when he’s been on a
team, so I don’t think he’ll make the team through training camp. But if he
can, he’ll likely be a special teams player and fifth or sixth receiver.
