March 6th Signings

The Falcons Sign Thomas DeCoud to a Five-Year Extension

The Falcons made a great decision in signing Thomas DeCoud to a five year, 17.5 million dollar deal with 4 million guaranteed. Decoud has been a starter for the better part of the last three years and while he hasn’t been spectacular, he’s been solid. He can be inconsistent, especially in coverage, but the truth is there aren’t a lot of great coverage safeties out there. Additionally, given the money the Falcons need to have available to pay other key members of their team (Matt Ryan, Curtis Lofton, etc.) DeCoud brings great value for what he’s being paid. He may never be a top ten Safety, but can play at that next tier level on occasion. Should he develop and jump to being a top 15 safety, then the Falcons got him at a great price. Good decision.

Dominek Hixon Re-Signs with the Giants

The Giants made a good decision signing Domenik Hixon to a one year contract worth 615,000. Hixon, who has missed the last two seasons with knee injuries, is familiar with the coaching staff and offense so there will be no learning curve for him. When he played, he was a very good kick returner and solid slot receiver, which is what the Giants will want with Mario Manningham likely leaving via free agency. Should his knees is be a problem, the giants wouldn’t have offered too much for him. This was a solid signing.

The 49ers give C.J. Spillman a Three-Year Contract Extension

C.J. Spillman has been a good special teams ace for the 49ers and gives them some extra depth in the defensive backfield. Not much to say else to say about this, good signing overall.
